Village Café CD-ROM

Organization: North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, Alpharetta, GA

Project Title: Village Café CD-ROM

Problem: One of the hallmarks of this mission board’s success over the years is the number of volunteers it engages for short-term mission projects, particularly for disaster relief projects and outreach to the underprivileged. But each year volunteerism wanes and the costs associated with recruitment rises. NAMB needed a multimedia piece that would capture the attention of three audiences: high school youth, young adults/college students, and older adults. The piece needed to gently yet clearly make the case that normal people can make a difference in the lives of others across North America as short term missions volunteers.

Solution: To reach the three demographic profiles, Eternal Interactive designed a 3D interactive environment that resembles a place where the all three demographics like to relax: the corner café. Village Café features several life-like objects on a wooden café table which is inlaid with a chess board. When the user clicks on items, they discover a variety of things including a map that shows the location of a handful of mission points and videos of missionaries describing their work on the field. The user may see a presentation about one’s “calling” to mission service. Or, through an interactive notebook, viewers are also given information about the wide variety of service opportunities available for each age group.
